Now in its 15th year, Yeah, You Write! summer camp is dedicated to
developing the writer in every child. Camp sessions stress pre-writing and
composing strategies and emphasize peer-response circles and presentation of
students' work to an audience.
Yeah, You Write! is sponsored by the National Writing Project of Acadiana, the
Episcopal School of Acadiana, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Camp directors are consultants for the NWP-Acadiana and experienced teachers.
This year's camps offer three workshops in Lafayette at E.S.A. Lower School
at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and one in Cade at the Episcopal School of
Acadiana.
Yeah, I Can Write!
First- through fourth-graders will be encouraged to view themselves as authors
and will develop writing through storytelling, interactive dramatics, and
other engaging literacy strategies. Enrollment is limited to 12.
Yeah, You Write!
In this workshop, students in grades 5-12 will develop products that
incorporate language and visual components. They will use process strategies,
such as visualization, art, music, movement, and models, to create personally
meaningful expressions.
Yeah, You Write! Select Writers
Experienced young writers will work seminar-style on pieces to publish or to
enter in writing contests. They will read models of strong writing and explore
strategies to inspire writing. For admission into this section, submit a
portfolio of four pieces of writing and a cover letter responding to these
questions: What role does writing play in your life? What is your writing goal
for this workshop?
Yeah, You Write, Too!
Amid the cane fields of Cade, students in grades 4-12 will explore the writing
process through responses to words, art, and music. Students will use the
natural setting to inspire their writing. This class will meet on the
Episcopal School of Acadiana campus July 10-14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bus
transporation is available from Lafayette.
